How to Make a Natural Herbal Facial

The goal of a facial is opening pores and deep-cleaning. Additionally facials help remove old skin cells, treat the skin to revitalizing moisture, and generally provide some much deserved pampering. An herbal facial scrub is a great step to begin with, especially if you’re having trouble with oily spots or pimples.

How to Make an Herbal Scrub

Things You’ll Need

  • 2 tbs. honey
  • 2 tbs. lime juice
  • 2 tbs. lemon juice
  • ½ cup oil (your choice – coconut and almond are nice)
  • ½ cup finely powdered oats (a great scrubber)
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  1. Mix your ingredients together until well blended. Put this in a glass container with a good lid for use.
  2. To apply tjis herbal scrub, just put some on a damp wash cloth and gently scrub your entire face in small circles (don’t forget behind the ears and the back of your neck).
  3. Rinse well with warm water then pat your face gently dry.

Quick Tip

Other citrus fruit like an orange and grapefruit may be used in this recipe as an aromatic alternative to lemon and lime. All skin types usually respond well to this blend.

Herbal Facials by Skin Type

Facials are formulated more specifically to each of the three types of skin textures: dry, normal, oily.

For dry skin

  1. Begin with a foundation of ripe banana or avocado. Cucumber is another great alternative.
  2. Peel and mush with one tablespoon of honey and oatmeal until you reach a pasty, but easily applied consistency.
  3. Steam your face with a warm towel before applying the mask, and leave on for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Rinse this off with warm water.

For normal skin

  1. Use a foundation of ripe organic peach. Peel and then heat up the fruit’s pulp until very soft and mushy.
  2. Add one to two tablespoons of honey and approximately a cup of oatmeal, stirring it in slowly. Stop adding oatmeal if you notice the mixture getting too dry – it needs to be spreadable.
  3. Steam your face with a warm towel before applying the mask, and leave on for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Rinse this off with warm water.

For oily skin

Follow the same steps, this time using strawberries or, if you’re very prone to acne, apple.

Quick Tip

If you want a tightening affect with any one of these three, ad a well-blended egg and adjust the amount of oatmeal accordingly. Leave the facial on until it dries then rinse with cool water.
